Meet Our Church Family
Jack Parrott
Pastor
Bettye Parrott
First Lady
Dr. Jack Parrott brings a wealth of experience to Chapman Grove Baptist Church. He was raised in church, as his father was a Baptist preacher. Jack received his BA from Carson Newman University and earned his MS from the University of Tennessee. He completed Luther Rice Seminary for his Doctorate in Ministry.
His pastoral experience started at Big Emory Baptist Church in 1956. It was during this time that Jack met Bettye, who was raised in Roane County. They were married in Jack's father's church. Jack proudly proclaims they have been married for 58 years!
Jack pastored at Beech Park Baptist in the 1960's, then moved to Black Oak Heights until 1989. Sunnyside Baptist was blessed to have his as pastor through 2006, when Jack "retired." He has continued to preach since that retirement, and plans on continuing to deliver God's message until he is 100, or when God calls him home, whichever comes last!
Jack served on the International Missions Board for eight years, and he has also been the Chairman of Co-op Services. His missions and revival work has taken him and Bettye all over the world. He built a church in Kenya. He has traveled to China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Venezuela, New Zealand, London, and Canada.
Jack credits Bettye for her unfailing support throughout his career. Bettye has always been active in their churches, doing anything that needed doing. She has been the church secretary, taught classes, and has organized dynamic visitation programs. The job of a pastor's wife is never easy, and Bettye has been doing it for 58 years! We are blessed to have her at Chapman Grove!
Jack has always enjoyed fishing and hunting, although he admits he has slowed down a bit in recent years. Bettye likes to crochet. They have two sons, Jerome and Jonathan. Jack and Bettye reside in Knoxville.
Chris Smith
Worship Leader
The only thing that Chris loves more than good food is worshipping our Lord! He leads us through our musical worship and fellowship each Sunday. A bit shy most of the time, his timidness vanishes when he is raising his voice in song!
Chris grew up in Chapman Grove and his love for the church is apparent to everyone he meets.
Carrie Smith
Children's Director
As with her brother, Chris, Carrie also grew up in our church. She recently moved back to our community after spending several years working in Nashville. A loving spirit and an approachable manner make her a natural with children of all ages.
Carrie has the voice of an angel and regularly treats us to stirring renditions of today's gospel music.
Annette Barnett
Church Pianist
Annette provides the beautiful piano music for our worship services. In her "spare" time, she runs a farm populated with a variety of livestock, including a tribe of goats. Annette is a hard worker and takes care of all the farm chores from milking to mucking. She uses the generously donated goat milk to make an extensive line of heavenly scented soaps.
